Keeping business premises clean and sanitised is essential in these difficult times to stop the spread of COVID-19 infection. Thankfully there is a lot of guidance available now, including this publication from Public Health England and daily updates in the national media.

There is a lot of emphasis on regular wiping and cleaning of hard surfaces with chlorine based disinfectant and there are some detailed guidelines here from the BICSc.

Update 23/10/20 – we are seeing continuing demand for chemical fogging machines, anti-viral disinfectant and sanitising equipment, and have a wide range in stock – available now for fast delivery.

Meanwhile there are other types of cleaning equipment available which can be used for deep cleaning and sanitisation and we are actively supplying steam cleaners and other equipment to customers, including many in the cleaning industry who are providing services to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
Thank you to all of you who are doing a difficult but essential job.

Fighting Coronavirus with thorough steam cleaning

Steam cleaning is a proven method for cleaning and disinfection of hard surfaces, walls, floors and furniture.

The current pandemic relates to a novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (now known as COVID-19), which has caused a Worldwide outbreak of a disease similar to SARS. Research has shown that a related coronavirus that causes SARS cannot survive in temperatures over 56°C. Whilst this has not yet been sufficiently tested with COVID-19 to provide certificated evidence, the current thinking is that it should behave in a similar way.

Recent guidance from Public Health England COVID-19: cleaning in non-healthcare settings states “When items cannot be cleaned using detergents or laundered, for example, upholstered furniture and mattresses, steam cleaning should be used.”

Steam cleaners are also recommended in this article from Good Housekeeping Magazine.

Steam cleaners release very fine steam at temperatures of up to 180°C, under pressure, so can reach into every corner of every surface in a way that wiping with cloths or cleaning with brushes can’t do. Industry testing has demonstrated that steam cleaning removes 99% of germs, bacteria and other organisms.

Some steam cleaner examples:
The Karcher SGV 8/5 which uses steam at 8 bar pressure and a powerful wet & dry vacuum function to ensure for hygenic cleaning. This machine can be used with detergent and is also self-cleaning.

The STI QV7 Steam Cleaner which is a highly portable machine, using dry steam at 120° or more for effective sanitising of all types of surfaces.

Matrix Steam Cleaners, such as the SDV8, have undergone in depth trials to measure performance and have been found to remove at least 99.999% of all organisms, under test conditions.

We have a wide range of dry steam cleaning equipment available, so please give us a call, we’re happy to advise you.

Our depots are open for business as usual; however the doors are locked and only key staff are allowed inside the buildings, most are working from home. Transactions are taking place through a screened window and the goods are placed in a sealed-off area for customers to collect.

We are taking all recommended precautions to keep our staff and our customers safe. We have instructed our staff to abide by distancing advice when on site and they are equipped with gloves and alcohol hand sanitiser.
