Pressure Cleaner

The development of the pressure cleaner has been one of the most significant factors in aiding heavy duty cleaning in industrial and domestic environments. It has become a sophisticated machine with many varieties in duty, type and size and is used for tasks from cleaning the family car to being used in a bespoke designed system for multi users in a food factory or similar environment.

Pressure Cleaner - How it Works

The pressure cleaner or washer operates by passing water through the machine where it is put under pressure by an integral pump. The water is then expelled from the nozzle at the end of the cleaning lance, and played on to the surface to be cleaned. The configuration of the water jet is determined by adjustment of the nozzle, so it can be narrow for a more directional jet or wider to cover a larger area. There is a lot of emphasis placed, in advertising literature etc., on the amount of pressure a cleaner can produce. This is not always the most important factor and should be viewed in conjunction with the flow rate i.e. the volume of water the pump can produce. For instance, if a large hard surface area is to be cleaned then a high volume is preferable as it covers more area and lessens the drying time.

Pressure Cleaner – Different Types

There are many different models of pressure cleaner but they can be split into some broad categories:

Cold Water

The basic cold water pressure cleaner is often adequate where the force of the cleaning water is sufficient

Hot Water

If the dirt being removed is oily or greasy then a hot water pressure cleaner would be used as hot water is more efficient at removing this type of residue.

Steam Option

For really adherent dirt a hot water cleaner with a steam option could be useful for such things as graffiti removal

Electric or Engine Powered

Pressure cleaners are available as mains electric or independent engine powered. For general usage the more common electric machine is adequate but, if the appliance is to be used off site or in inaccessible areas then an engine powered version is preferable.

As stated above these are very broad categories and within them there are different options and accessories to make a particular cleaning task more efficient.
