Pedestrian Sweeperview floor sweepers

The cleaning task in industrial environments has been mechanised to a great extent. This has reduced the labour intensiveness and the fatigue associated with manual cleaning. The floor sweeping machine, in particular the pedestrian, or as it is also known the walk behind, floor sweeper has a large part to play in keeping commercial premises clean, inside and out.

Pedestrian Sweeper – How it works

The floor sweeper uses a system of brushes to effectively sweep the floor. There is usually a side disc brush at the front of the machine which is mounted on a vertical axis and sweeps the dirt back into the body of the machine. A second brush mounted horizontally then removes the debris into a collection tank for emptying later. The type of brush used is important, as lighter, finer dirt requires a softer brush the heavy or adherent residue which requires stiffer, rougher bristles.

Pedestrian Sweeper – Selection Criteria

  • Power
There is a choice between battery operated and engine driven machines. Battery powered machines need regular recharging, whereas engines last as long as there is fuel in the tank. There are health implications if an engine driven machine is used inside due to the exhaust gasses, and there may be noise implications as well. Batteries can be variable, so pick one with a good power unit.
  • Size
The side brush allows for the machine to reach into the more inaccessible areas, however, the physical size of the sweeper may be an impediment to passing through narrow gaps, so check the physical dimensions of the sweeper to make sure it fits with your premises.
  • Adjustability
The brush has to maintain good contact with the floor, and should therefore be adjustable to ensure that it is efficient and the wear on the brush is not too extensive.
  • Design
The pedestrian sweeper should be designed so that it is easy to use and does not cause unnecessary fatigue to the operator.

These are just a few of the point to consider when selecting a pedestrian sweeper. The safest option is to discuss your requirement with B & G Cleaning who have over 25 year experience in supplying the right cleaning equipment at the right prices.
