Industrial Steam Cleanerdry steam cleaners

The use of steam in industrial cleaning has the benefit of effectively sanitising surfaces and reducing or eliminating the need for potentially hazardous chemicals. The concept of using steam as a cleaning medium has been around for many years and the industrial steam cleaner has evolved over time to be the sophisticated machine we have today. Steam can be created using a pressure washer which creates a ‘wet steam’ or by a purpose made machine which produces a ‘dry steam’.

Industrial Steam Cleaner – Pressure Washer

The efficacy of pressure washing is well known but sometimes, for particularly adherent dirt the force of pressurised water is not enough and additional cleaning power is required. A pressure washer with a steam facility can be the answer to problematic residue. Steam is produced by reducing the flow of water through the machine which causes the boiler to raise the temperature of the water to around 140oC to create steam. The steam created has a high water content and, although it does have the power to remove dirt, it does not effectively sanitise the surface.

Industrial Steam Cleaner – Dry Steam Cleaner

A purpose made industrial steam cleaner has advantages over a pressure washer with a steam facility in that it sanitizes the surface as well as removing residue, and it can more easily be used indoors. A dry steam cleaner heats the water to around 180oC which creates a super heated steam with very little water content, in fact it is more or less hot air. This hot air can be played on the surface and it will get into the nooks and crannies to liquefy the unwanted deposits. The resultant deposits then have to be removed and some dry steam cleaners have an integral vacuum to do this. The mechanical power to remove dirt is less than a pressure washer but the dry steam cleaner has a greater degreasing power and removes the need for detergents.
