Disc Floor Cleaner – What is it?

The one certainty about any floor area anywhere is that it will need cleaning; whether as a result of spillages or human traffic, it will need attention and this is where a disc floor cleaner comes in. We rarely see mops, brooms etc. these days in commercial premises because of the advent of the disc floor cleaner. The disc floor cleaner essentially replicates the human action of cleaning, by using a rotating disc, which is in contact with the floor, to scrub, buff and polish the area as required. The machine has a motor which sits on top of the pad or disc and is controlled by the operator via the handle grip. The disc can be changed to suit the application, such as scrubbing, polishing etc. There are a variety of disc floor cleaners available, in different sizes and selection of the right one depends on the duty required.

Disc Floor Cleaner – Selection Criteria

• What type of floor surface is to be cleaned? Wood, concrete even marble can be cleaned with a disc cleaner.
• How manoeuvrable is the machine? Disc floor cleaners are often required to clean awkward areas.
• What type of stain or dirt will the cleaner be required to deal with? If stubborn marks like paint or grease need cleaning up, then a heavier duty machine is required.
• The balance and stability of the machine is important to reduce operator fatigue and ensure consistent cleaning. The vibration level when the machine is in operation should also be taken into account.
• The safety of the disc floor cleaner is obviously important and special features should be looked for, such as a thermal safety cut out.
