Chemical Free Cleaning
There is great concern in society about chemicals and their use in our daily lives. It can be argued that everything has chemicals in it, but this does not assuage people who see them as artificial and unnecessary. Much of these feelings are bound up with a growing sense that our environment has been harmed by man’s activity and also that chemicals may be personally harmful to us directly. Cleaning is certainly one area where the use of chemicals has grown and advertisers are always selling cleaning products which we never realised we needed. So, there are the pressures of modern hygiene requirements, coupled with the distaste for using aggressive chemicals, which make for a fairly confused consumer. We can go back to the old ways of cleaning such as baking soda and lemon juice, and in addition we could employ some modern cleaning equipment which minimises the use of chemicals or does away with them altogether.
Chemical Free Cleaning – Water
Water is the common factor required in most cleaning. The perceived problems arise from the use of additional cleaning agents to clean surfaces. Sometimes there is nothing that can obviously be done; for instance if a surface has to be sanitised in a food or healthcare environment, it would be difficult not to use a propriety product that has been tested and proved. When washing down however if a hot water pressure washer were to be used it may be that the pressurised hot water applied at a sufficient rate may be enough on its own to clean adequately. Another feature of some pressure washers, where additional cleaning power is required, is the ability to create steam to achieve deeper sanitation.
Chemical Free Cleaning – Steam
The steam from a pressure washer although useful in some circumstances may not be sufficient to thoroughly cleanse the surface. If this is the case then a dry steam cleaner would be a better option. This machine has been developed to apply pressure to a body of water to raise its boiling point and create super heated steam. The advantage of this method is that a dry steam is created rather than a wet steam from a pressure washer, with consequently improved cleansing qualities. The benefits of using steam in this way are that it penetrates deep into the surface being cleaned and gets into the nooks and crannies that may be missed by other cleaning methods; killing bacteria and enabling grease and grime to be wiped away. This system will certainly reduce, if not remove altogether the need for harsh chemicals.
